Over 500,000 Quebecers are set to wager a total of $14 million on the Super Bowl... but how many will play on private platforms?

February 7, 2025

Montreal, February 7, 2025 – Just days before Super Bowl LIX, a survey by Nanos Research reveals that approximately 577,000 Quebecers are expected to wager on the event, with total bets surpassing 14 million dollars. These results, released today by the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition (CQJL), confirm the growing popularity of sports betting among Quebecers.

Both the Coalition’s figures and those of Loto-Québec show that a majority of Quebec adults who play online do so on platforms other than Loto-Québec’s. Given the record-breaking participation in sports betting around the Super Bowl year after years, the Coalition emphasizes the importance for Quebec to modernize the regulatory framework of online gaming to provide a safer environment for all players.

“In the age of the internet, Loto-Québec’s model has become outdated. Quebec needs to modernize its laws to ensure consistent protection for all players, whether they choose to bet on private platforms or with Loto-Québec,” says Ariane M. Gauthier, spokesperson for the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition.
